​An Inventory of Skills  and Knowledge is a comprehensive detailed list that showcases a specific skill set that is needed to apply for a specific job. Some of these skill sets are transferable to many jobs, but you may need to add specific ones that are applicable to to certain jobs.

CAREER COUNSELLING
  • Advise students Grade 8 - 12 on course selections so they can make insightful decisions regarding career choices, post-secondary schooling or to meet identified career/program objectives. 
  • Provide current information to students to broaden their knowledge base regarding educational issues during their Senior Years. 
  • Give direction to students regarding career exploration, planning vocational issues, job search strategies skills by using a wide range of educational/occupational information 
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills in using technology to assist individuals with career planning 
  • Advise students regarding availability of scholarships and bursaries to aid them in their financial endeavors.
​
IMPLEMENTATION SKILLS
  • Assist in the planning and developing new services to meet student needs 
  • Co-ordinate and participate in student and parent orientation programs being offered about colleges and universities (i.e. Career Symposium, University Tours, Canadian College Tours) 
  • Promote universities and colleges in Linden Christian School via bulletin boards, career resource center and visits to the school for student awareness. 
  • Introduce websites that are relevant to post-secondary schooling, careers, and trades 
  • Initiate a plan to meet with each student Senior 1 to Senior 4 individually to discuss course selections and goals, and provide specialized counselling and interventions services to students with individualized attention 
  • Introduce career development through implementation of life/work resources for Early Years, Middle Years and Senior Years (Blueprint for Life, Be Real Game Series). 
  • Organize and prepare students for college admissions tests (PSAT, SAT) 
  • Execute assessment tools, personality tests (Myers-Briggs), aptitude tests, interests and achievements to help students assess their strengths and weaknesses. 

TEACHING SKILLS ​​
  • ​Prepare and present subject material to students according to an approved curriculum about career planning and life goals. 
  • Teach students using a systematic plan of lectures, discussions, and audiovisual that will help them utilize different means of communicating.  
  • Introduce student portfolios at Senior 1 that are specific to career exploration, that would facilitate the transition from school to the world of work or further education through career exploration and decision-making activities. 
  • Assist students to interpret information about programs at other post-secondary institutions 
  • Develop career portfolios that include test and grade results, examples of student work, resumes and cover letters to perspective employers.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills in using technology to assist individuals with career planning 
  • Teaching others about the appropriate use of computer based systems for evaluation of student success, career information and life long planning. 

EFFECTIVE ORAL AND WRITTEN COMMUNICATION
  • Develop career portfolios that include test and grade results, examples of student work, resumes and cover letters to perspective employers. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills in using technology to assist individuals with career planning
  • Teaching others about the appropriate use of computer based systems for evaluation of student success, career information and life long planning. 

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT 
  • ​​Integrate professional development sessions for students, parents and teachers regarding careers and post-secondary information
  • Facilitate the goals of career education by assisting students and their families to explore and clarify career options. 
  • Implement career development programs in collaboration with others.
  • Use computer skills to design and develop written and supporting material. 
  • Prepare oral presentations to provide information for intended purpose and audiences. 

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SKILLS 
  • Participate in educational conferences and training workshops relevant to career counselling. Continuous learning, staying updated in my specialty field 
  • Continually improving interpersonal and communication skills so that I can be an effective communicator. 

RESOURCE SUPPORT SKILLS 
  • Visit Colleges and universities to gather information regarding entrance requirements and communicate this to students 
  • Provide a resource center that supports educational materials from across Canada, and an integrated networking of websites that are most useful for gathering information about careers, financial planning and post-secondary schooling. 
  • Introduce new resources for students to participate in (Canada Career Week, Job Fair, University Information Tours), this increases awareness within the school environment regarding careers) 
  • To be knowledgeable on changing roles of men and women and the implications that this has for education. 
  • To introduce methods of good use of computer based career information delivery systems (CIDS) and computer assisted career guidance systems (CACGS) to assist with career planning, as well as services available on the Internet. 
  • Education, training, and employment trends, labor market information and resources that provide information about job tasks, functions, salaries, requirements and future outlooks related to broad occupational fields and individual occupations. 

SELF-MANAGEMENT SKILLS
  • Utilize time management tools so that there is more time for the important things in life like family. 
  • Delegate routine and necessary tasks to another employee who is the most skilled to do them. 
  • Seek out help from those who are more experienced rather than trying to troubleshoot myself. 
  • Know who you are and what your responsibilities are in the work setting because this will facilitate in the decision making of saying “NO” to new projects and commitments. 

​INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
  • Interpret verbal and non-verbal behaviors to enhance communication 
  • To understand cultural awareness and how to interpret as it relates to gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity and physical and mental capacities. 
  • To provide support to persons experiencing uncertainty as to career direction, lifelong goals and other career transition issues. 
  • To guide students to make right choices through appropriate communication when they are uncertain of their future plans 
  • Critical thinking – define and solve problems and use problem solving and improvement methods and tools 
  • Apply active listening skills to obtain and clarify information
